Inspirations is one of the mainsprings of art. Without the power of inspirations lurks the danger of weakened expressiveness and eloquence.

For us, performing musicians, the profusion of riches written by composers over the ages is our greatest source of inspiration. But we also draw inspiration for our interpretations from other sources such as meeting and communicating with others, personal development and experience of life.

Tese sources of inspiration are the ties that hold this CD together. The interesting thing about the pieces on this CD is that they were all in spired by either a composer, a text or another musician. Hindemith was inspired by an old nursey rhyme for his variations. Beethoven found himself inspired by the music of Mozart and Händel. Martinù got his inspiration from a great cello virtuoso. And we in turn found ourselves inspired by Beethoven, Martinù and Hindemith. Herein lies the explanation behind the album title: Inspired by!
